IP telephony refers to any telephone system that uses an Internet connection to send and receive voice data. Unlike regular phones that use landline phones to transmit analog signals, IP phones connect to the Internet through a router and modem. IP telephony is a more general term encompassing the full suite of technologies, features and products – this includes both voice-based and non-voice-based features
IP telephony uses Voice over IP technology to place and transmit telephone calls over an IP network such as the Internet. This is in contrast to standard telephones using the traditional public switched telephone network (PSTN). IP phones are the digital transmission of phone calls and are therefore an integral part of your organization’s network infrastructure.
